working on film score
9/98......
Michael & Charlie Sexton are currently working on
the soundtrack to a film that was shot in Austin, a dark comedy
with the working title of Natural Selection.
The film is being produced by the founders of
the ever-amazing Austin Heart of Film Festival
so we figure that this is one which will someday
see the light of day.
The music is being added last, and is rumored
to be delightful.

Makes Lotsa "Best of '98" Lists

Michael's latest was picked in The Austin Chronicle's top 9's lists by Michael
Bertin and Raoul Hernandez, as well as in The Austin American-Statesman's
Best Albums of 1998, placing #14.
Not to mention making the Top Ten Lists of renowned rock critic Dave Marsh,
musiccritic.com, and the Strangers.

Michael has just released a new record with Austin legend, and all-around
good guy, Charlie Sexton (Arc Angels, Charlie Sexton Sextet, guitarist
for Joe Ely
at age 16) 
as his producer.
The title is "World in a Drop of Water and
it's his best yet.
A string section is occasionally in the picture, and the critics'
allusions to a rootsy Sgt. Pepper's are pretty accurate.
And we've gotten about a hundred e-mails in the past week, each the same....
.... "thanks for another Michael record. I went to see him last night,
and OK, he's always been my favorite, but I just wasn't prepared for
how much more wonderful he keeps getting. thanks again."
So now a written challenge to
our ever kind Austin music writers.
To search the files for the name of
just one songwriter in town you would rank higher than Michael.
If they come back with Abra Moore or Jimmy LaFave
I won't stop them, but we'll just let it be our
little secret that, when he first began
telling me about his friend
Michael, Jimmy clinched
it with, "I think he
writes better
songs
than
me."
This is a classic record. We can't wait for you to hear it.

Micael showcased his new band at Austin's Cactus Cafe in August '96,
and
left the audience (no exaggeration) breathless. New players, new arrangements,
and most noticeably, a whole new, and totally positive, energy level from
the
stage.
