Jackson Browne sings the birthday song to Jimmy

( I watched him sing every word I swear, led, as were we all, by Joel Rafael and his band. In the gardens of Lou's Rocky Road Tavern following his triumphant solo performance at the historic Crystal

Theatre, where Woody used to go to the movies, Jackson kicked off the Woody Guthrie FreeFolk Festival and sang for free to benefit the Woody Guthrie Coalition.)

We'll find out one day if he became a fan, but just before the cake came out Jimmy had joined Joel onstage & had completely claimed Woody's "Going Down the Road Feeling Bad." Jackson was smiling big as Jimmy sang, and just as big as he joined our "Happy Birthday," and he belted it right along with us from the start.

( So you'll know, Jimmy couldn't stop talking about how much he loved the show. We agree. We sat on the second row, right behind Arlo and the rest of the Guthrie family, & Jackson played for three hours. It was the first concert in a long time I woke up the next morning still thinking about. Plus he didn't take a dime from the Coalition. And he not only came to Joel's little after-party, but he stayed for quite some time, and put on no airs at all. Very classy guy..... )
